Following on from our ‘meet the team’ series, we recently spoke with Lacie Duthie, Athona’s Acute & Psychiatry’s Compliance Team Leader to discuss her journey here so far. As well as highlighting some of her favourite aspects of working at Athona and delving into why she has stayed for over 6 years, Lacie also reveals a fun fact about herself!

How did you get into compliance and when did you join Athona?
I initially joined Athona in July 2017 where I worked within the sales side of the business. In October 2019, I decided the sales side of recruitment wasn’t for me, so I made the change to join the Compliance team and haven’t looked back since!
How have you progressed in your role since being at Athona?
When I joined Athona in 2017, I initially started as a Sales Consultant Apprentice on the Surgery team. After completing my apprenticeship, I became a Sales Consultant on the A&E team, before eventually progressing to Recruitment Consultant within the same team. I then made a change back to the Surgery team where I remained a Recruitment Consultant for another year. However, in October 2019, I moved over to join the Compliance team where I have progressed from Compliance Officer to Senior Compliance Officer to now Compliance Team Leader – all in the space of 4 short years!
What’s your favourite aspect of Athona and what has made you stay for so long?
My favourite part of Athona is how everyone knows everyone – we’re almost like one big family! Due to the nature of my role, I communicate with a lot of different people so I have got to know everyone over the years. This is the reason why I have stayed for so long, as I feel very comfortable being here and really enjoy coming to work to see everyone!
What do you hope to achieve within the next few years?
In the next few years, I hope to progress my leadership skills and push the Compliance team to the best of their abilities. I look forward to working on these skills and taking my knowledge base to the next level so I can contribute even more towards the team and working closely with my manager to achieve this.
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge I’ve had to overcome was the ability to take a step back and plan when I was in a difficult situation. This particular experience taught me a lot in terms of communication and problem solving and I feel as though I’m now prepared if a situation like this was to ever arise again.

Apparently I have a very distinctive laugh and whenever I laugh, everyone in the office knows about it!
