Job Description

Currently we have an excellent opportunity NMC registered ward manager to join our client with their purpose built, small 14 bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Preston.

The ward provides facility for men who experience a complex range of mental health issues and require long term support and treatment within a controlled environment.

Salary: £45,000 + £2000 welcome bonus

Position: Ward Manager

Hours: 37.5, Monday to Friday, 9/5

Setting: Complex Mental Health

Location: Preston

Ideal role for either an experience ward manager, or someone looking to take a leap in their career, but has previous managerial/deputising experience.

You will manage the small ward, which admits men aged 18+ who have been detained under the mental health act, with a primary diagnosis of a mental illness or personality disorder. The service used may also have a secondary diagnosis of substance misuse, ABI or learning disability with possible forensic history

Your Key responsibilities will include

  • Lead and supervise nursing teams and support workers to deliver high-quality, person-centred care, ensuring support plans are followed and evaluated regularly.
  • Manage staffing, rotas, and resources across departments, ensuring compliance with care standards, safeguarding procedures, and correct documentation.
  • Foster good relationships with service users, families, and external professionals, facilitating effective communication and care delivery.
  • Support staff development through supervision, training, and appraisals, ensuring compliance with CQC standards and participating in audits and governance processes.

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has;

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN, with previous experience in mental health nursing
  • Leadership skills and experience managing/deputising other qualified professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and MDTs.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to provide safe and effective patient care.
  • A resilient mindset.
