Whilst January can be seen as a fresh start and the time to set New Year resolutions for many, it can also be a long and difficult month for others. So it is no surprise that Blue Monday (coined by a UK travel company back in 2005) falls in January. Usually the third Monday, Blue Monday is supposedly the most depressing day of the year.

In England, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year and as the coronavirus pandemic continues into the third consecutive year, and healthcare and education professionals still endure feeling extreme burnout, it is important to remember to take the time to support your mental health and wellbeing.

That’s why this year we’re choosing to recognise the Samaritans initiative to turn Blue Monday into Brew Monday and follow a more positive approach.

Turning Blue Monday into Brew Monday

This Brew Monday the Samaritans are reminding everyone to take a break and reach out for a cuppa and catch-up with the people you care about most. So whether you share a break with a colleague at work or video call a loved one, make sure next Monday you find the time to connect with those around you.

Spread the word

Here at Athona we’re loving this initiative and after a difficult couple of years we’re encouraging our candidates, clients and employees to grab a brew and get everyone together.

We also know many of you may still be feeling overwhelmed with the additional workload over the festive season and want to remind you that whatever day of the week it is, we’re always here to provide support and guidance whenever you many need us.

So don’t forget this Brew Monday, make a cuppa and grab a catch-up with those around you.

There is lots of support and resources available, but if you feel like you need someone to speak to, please don’t forget the Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 116 123 for FREE.

If you’re a healthcare professional or education professional looking for a new job this winter, make sure you get in touch with the team today.
