For Christmas 2020, our Athona employees decided to do something a little different. Rather than our usual ‘secret Santa’ gift giving amongst employees, we instead decided to buy presents for staff at our local hospital, Brentwood Community Hospital.
After this year, our employees felt they would rather donate presents to staff at the local hospital instead of sharing gifts internally. 2020 has been a difficult year for everybody, and we wanted to give back to those who have been working so hard throughout the year within our health service and show a gesture of our appreciation. We gave presents for the staff, gift cards to be used in their Christmas quiz, and donated to their charity wellbeing fund, The Health Way Foundation.
Gifts were shared between all staff at Brentwood Community Hospital, part of the NELFT NHS Foundation Trust, who provide an extensive range of integrated community and mental health services for people living in the London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Barnet, Havering, Redbridge and Waltham Forest and community health services for people living in Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock.
Athona employees. Kerry Sheehan and Emily Bongiorno, delivered the gifts on Thursday 17th December to six employees who were hugely appreciative of the gesture and were sure it was going to lift the spirits of everyone within the Trust.
Kerri Springer, Charity Manager at The Health Way Foundation said ‘The staff at Brentwood Community Hospital have worked so hard this year, many of them being redeployed and moved to different sites, working in roles that are different from their usual jobs. It has been a challenge for all those involved and this small gesture of kindness from Athona Recruitment helps the staff to see that their hard work is being recognised from the community. It’s wonderful to see the support coming in and the staff are extremely touched by the gifts they received. In addition, the donation of funds to our charity will go towards the continued support of health and wellbeing to staff who continue to work tirelessly during the pandemic.’
